Started since 2018, the college sub-unit works as per the regulations of The Karnatak University, Dharwad NSS unit. The volunteers of the college sub-unit have many special accolades to their credit.

Definition, Meaning and Scope of the NSS: –
The NSS was launched in INDIA on 24th September 1969, to mark the birth centenary year of “Father of our Nation”, Mohandas Karamchand Gandhi.

YOGA DAY
RNS FIRST GRADE, Murudeshwar has conducted a yoga Programme to create awareness in students about the importance of yoga on 18th July 2023. The event was organized under the Tag line “Yoga for Vasudhaiva Kutumbakam,” which beautifully encapsulates our collective aspiration for “One Earth, One Family, One Future”. It was conducted with the guidance of our Principal Prof. Dinesh Gaonkar, NSS Programme Officer Prof. Ganesh Naik. Around 200 students and faculty members took part in this event. Current generation is becoming weak and unhealthy day by day due to ignorance, wrong practices and laziness. It is our responsibility to spread right practices time to time to make everyone ‘HEALTHY, HAPPY AND HARMONIOUS’. Yoga is one of the key events which help all age group to inspire themselves and experience synergy within the event. This event also inspires everyone to increase their confidence, fitness and inspire them towards health and selflessness.
BLOOD DONATION CAMP
RNS First Grade College in collaboration with RNS Hospital, Murudeshwar and KMC Hospital, Manipal, organized a Blood Donation Camp with the motto ‘Donate Blood, Save Lives’ on 10th August 2023 at RNS Hospital, Murudeshwar. The occasion was inaugurated at 9:00 am by the Chief Guest Prof. Dinesh Gaonkar and Presided by Dr. Chetan Kalkura, MD of RNS Hospital, Murudeshwar.
Prof. Dinesh Gaonkar AO & the Principal of RNS FGC, addressed and encouraged the students, teaching and non-teaching staff to donate their blood for the good cause. Prof. Madhav P, Principal of RNS PUC, Prof. Santosh Nayak, Principal of RNS Polytechnic, Vice Principal of RNS Polytechnic, Prof. Mariswami, Principal of RNS Nursing College, Prof. Keshav Murthy, Prof. Ganesh Naik, NSS Programme Officer, Prof. Ganapati Naik and Alumni Students of RNS FGC helped in organizing the camp. Teaching and non-teaching staff, students, volunteers and parents took active participation in the Camp.
Students enthusiastically participated in the camp and around 120 units of blood was collected by KMC Hospital, Manipal Blood bank.
AIDS DAY
Worlds Aids Day designated on 1st December every year since 1988. The NSS unit of RNS First Grade College, Murudeshwar observed world AIDS day to spread awareness regarding AIDS. They called for an increased response to move towards and speak out against HIV stigma following the theme of world AIDS Day 2023, which is “End inequalities, End Aids”. The NSS volunteers shared facts and medically accurate information about HIV and AIDS.
Irayya Devadiga, Health Officer, explained the symptoms of HIV and treatment of AIDS in his speech. He highlighted medical facts with the help of flex.
All the students and faculty members wore red ribbons to raise awareness about AIDS. AIDS awareness slogans “Let’s stop HIV together”, “Open your eyes before AIDS closes them” etc. resonated through the air.
Principal Prof. Dinesh Gaonkar highlighted the fact “the world is facing new diseases each day”. He further said that, “we all should take constructive steps to eliminate chronic diseases for making our planet safe and spreading awareness about AIDS disease in communities is must”.
ANTI DRUG AWARENESS PROGRAMME
To create awareness among the students about Evils of drugs in life. RNS First Grade College conducted an anti-drug awareness Programme on 5th November 2023. The chief guest of the program was Dr. Shenoy Kasturba Hospital, Manipal.
The program was conducted with the aim of creating awareness among the students about the Socio-Economic problems which are linked with drugs, alcohol etc. The resource person Dr. Shenoy highlighted how slowly and steadily the habit of drugs kills the life of an individual. He also pointed out how to keep away from these bad habits.
More than 100 students are participated in this Programme. Students gained lot of information about drugs and its impact on the life of the individual.
NSS CAMP
RNS First Grade College organised an Annual Camp of National Service Planning Unit under the joint collaboration with NSS Unit Karnatak University, Dharwad, District Panchayat Karwar, Taluk Panchayat Bhatkal, Village Panchayat Shirali, at Alvekodi Temple premises, Shirali, Bhatkal Taluk from 7th February 2023 to 14th February 2023.
This Camp was organized under the theme “Sadhruda Desha Namma Udhesha”. During the 7 days camp, the volunteers have worked outside their comfort zone.
The Inaugural Function of the NSS Programme was held on 7th February 2023, Tuesday, at 4:30p.m. The Inaugurator of the Programme Mrs. Revati Ravishankar Naik addressed the volunteers and advised that service spirit should be cultivated by everyone. Chief Guest Dr. M B Dalapati, NSS Planning Officer, Karnatak University Dharwad, explained the importance of the NSS Camp to the volunteers.
The NSS Programme officer had scheduled the time of events well in advance like flag hoisting, yoga, breakfast, shramadan, lunch, guest lecture, sports, cultural rehearsal, cultural Programme, assembly session and completing the day with dinner.
The NSS camp teaches the students to come out of their comfort zone and serve the nation which is essential and enriches the village people to maintain the hygiene in and around their place. During the camp, volunteers participated enthusiastically in cleaning the temple premises, village survey by creating awareness among people on Swachh Bharat Abhiyan, plastic free village campaign, awareness on National Devotion, personality development etc.
From the guest lecturers they have learnt so many things like role of NSS in building the Nation, importance of Yoga, awareness on cybercrime, preparation for competitive exams, health and well-being, save forest, demonstration on heart attacks and preventive measures by Dr. Chetan Kalkura, RNS Hospital, Murudeshwar, organised yaksha nrutya gana. The cultural programmes gave a chance to exhibit the talents of the volunteers for the village people which is also filled with entertainment.
The camp ended on 14th February 2023, with the valedictory Programme in the presence of the principal, NSS Programme officer and staff members. The students shared their wonderful experience at the camp. The students expressed that the camp has made them to develop the leadership ability, time management, discipline, planning, and dignity of the work by an individual person
